...and surprisingly found some great stuff! this weekend, in my free time
away from the blur of activity for grand palace records’ 1st birthday
party (a store where i work in murfreesboro, tn), i mangaged to go to
grimey’s records 2nd annual fall sale in nashville. (grimey’s is very
cool, by the way. stop in if you’re ever in nashville.) i did not
expect to find anything worthwhile, but i picked up all of these for
the nice price of $1 a piece. NORO MORALES AND HIS QUINTET – NO BLUES , NORO: this is a nice piece of laid-back latin jazz. i like.
HUGO MONTENEGRO – MOOG POWER : worth the dollar for the cover alone, i
actually like some of these moog-laden arrangements of 60’s pop songs.
SOFT MACHINE 4 : even though i prefer the prankster-fuzz-psych sound of
soft machine 1 and soft machine 2, i am a fan of the band’s
instrumental prog-fusion era. if you are into that kind of thing, i
would recommend this album. STEVE MILLER BAND – SAILOR : before you
think of “the joker” or that other 70’s shit, you should give this a
listen. it’s a nice mix of blues, pop, and psychedelia. i was
pleasantly surprised by this album. THE SOUND OF WILSON PICKETT : goddamn, i love wilson pickett. he’s easily one of my favorite r&b or soul singers. MARTIN DENNY – QUIET VILLAGE : poke fun if you wish, i think this record is great. i love the cover, too. WALTER CARLOS – A CLOCKWORK ORANGE : the song “timesteps” is incredible. it reminds me of early tangerine dream. i also picked up two REDD FOXX comedy records. fucking hilarious!!
